Celebrating the life of
Thu Huynh Bui
May 22, 1946 - March 11, 2017
Mrs. Thu Huynh Bui, 70, went to her heavenly home on March 11, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends at Hospice Savannah, after a long illness.
Thu was born on May 22, 1946 in Saigon, Vietnam to Huynh van Hoai and Lam Thi Hoa. In 1975, as the Vietnam War was ending, she, her son and unborn daughter immigrated to the US and resettled in Savannah. Her husband, Minh, a South Vietnamese Air Force fighter pilot, was captured by Communist Vietnamese and held as a POW in a Communist reeducation camp for 10 years.
With the help of many, Thu spent 15 years lobbying local and state government officials for US assistance in the release and immigration of her husband. In 1990 with great celebration, the Bui family was reunited in Savannah
Thu worked for a period of time with the Catholic Diocese of Savannah. She also worked for 27 years at the Refugee Clinic for the Chatham County Health Department. She served as an interpreter for new immigrants seeking health services within the Savannah area. Thu retired in 2007 to spend time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her loving husband of 50 years, Minh Bui of Savannah, GA; children Triet Bui (Stacy) of Savannah, Thu-Van Bui Bert (Steve) of Lansing, Kansas; grandchildren Triet Robert Bui, Elizabeth Trinh Bert, Benjamin Lee Bui, Michael Minh Bert; siblings Huynh van Vinh, Huynh thi Xuan, Huynh thi Mai (Tuy), Huynh van Vien (Long Me); many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses, priests, sisters, staff and volunteers of St. Joseph's Hospital and Hospice Savannah for your compassionate care during Thu's illness. To her beloved friends who sat in prayer with her until the end--Thank you.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark Ross, Father Michael Cerrone, and Father Ronald Gatman, O.S.B. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear that this precious woman has passed. Thu and I worked at the Health Department and she would have me cut her hair, in her office, regularly. Thu brought paperwork of new residents, to me quite often, for me to notarize their paperwork. I loved Thu.
